Privacy Policy

Last updated June 2026. A plain-language policy for The Monsoon Wire, a member of The Monsoon Wire, published at monsoonwire.com. Provided in good faith; it is not legal advice. The operator determines the applicable jurisdictions and obtains its own counsel.

Who we are

The Monsoon Wire is an independent industry publication whose pages are produced by an automated editorial system overseen by a real person, who can be reached at [email protected]. The system works only from cited sources; it invents no figure and impersonates no person.

What we collect, and why

We collect as little as we can.

  • Reading. Standard server logs and Google Analytics record page views so we know what is read. The analytics use cookies to count visits and tell returning devices from new ones, in aggregate. We use this to see which coverage lands, not to build an advertising profile of you.
  • Reactions, questions, corrections. When you react to a page or send a question or correction, we store the signal and a one-way hashed fingerprint of your connection, used only for rate-limiting and spam control. We do not keep your raw IP address for these.
  • Email. If you subscribe to the newsletter or sign in to take part, we store your email address. It is used only to send what you asked for and, for sign-in, to recognise you across the site under a pseudonym. We never sell it or share it with advertisers.
  • Newsletter performance. Each newsletter contains a small image that lets us count, in aggregate, how many times an issue was opened, so we can tell whether an issue landed. We count per issue, not per person: we do not record who opened it, and we do not store your address or IP against an open. Links in the newsletter carry a campaign tag so our analytics can see which issue sent a visit, the same way any other referrer is recorded.
  • Comments. A comment is stored under your pseudonymous handle. The handle is derived from an internal id, never from your address, and your address is never shown.

Advertising

Where The Monsoon Wire carries advertising, it is labeled "Advertisement" and kept plainly separate from the reporting. We do not run a third-party behavioural ad network on the site: advertising sets no tracking cookies, follows you to no other site, and builds no profile of you. A sponsored link carries a "sponsored" and "nofollow" mark so it earns no search ranking and is never mistaken for editorial. Advertising never influences a word of what we report. The figures and the analysis answer to the source, not to the advertiser.

What we never do

We do not sell your data. We do not share it with advertisers. We do not build an advertising profile of you. We do not publish your email address. We do not use dark patterns to keep you here.

Where it lives

Email addresses and account data live in a database, never in the public files that make up the site, so a deletion request is a single action. Comment text is kept under your pseudonymous id.

Your choices

  • Unsubscribe from the link in any email. It is honoured at once.
  • Erase your data. Use the form below, or send a request to [email protected]. We remove your account and email, end your sessions, and unlink you from anything you posted. It is confirmed by an email link so no one can erase you but you.
  • Ask what we hold. Write to [email protected].

Children

This is not a service for children. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 13 (or the minimum age in your jurisdiction). If you believe a child has given us data, write to [email protected] and we will remove it.

Changes

If this policy changes materially, the date above changes and, for anything significant, we say so in the newsletter.
